My mother is Patricia Conroy, she and my father William Giles were married in St. Johns by Dr. Campbell. My grandparents Edmund and Hannah Conroy were the owners of Conroy and Sons 68 Market Street. I lived above the shops until we moved to California in 1956 when I was 5. I remember Father Kielt visiting our home.
We visited every other year until Nana passed away. Will be visiting again this summer, looking forward to seeing all the sights I remember growing up. |

Just wondered if somebody could help us, we have recently moved to Whitley, I am looking to have my baby girl christened Catholic as I was, I'm struggling to find the closest RC church, is there a difference between st marys and st johns or are they the same? Also are they both quite large? we have huge families you see.
Sorry for all the silly questions!!! Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks |

I shall put the Christmas mass times on the site as soon as Father Johnson gives them to me.
I'm not sure about a carol service.
If there is one it will be posted along with the Christmas mass times. |

We visited UK for 2 weeks in July 2009 and attended Holy Mass at St. Mary's on the 26th of July 2009. St. Mary's is really a deserving place to serve the Lord. The architecture is superb; we loved the neatness of the church and we took some pictures before leaving.
Fr. Jean Paul Ilunga celebrated the Holy Mass and his sermon was very touchy as he described how certain people cross from poverty line to wealth and then despise the poor and needy with whom they were previously associating with. As Africans, it is all too common to find what he described.
The parishioners were very friendly and interacted with us at the back of the church where we bought the Roman Missal, A book on Saints and the Simple Prayer Book.
Keep up the good works, Frs. Johnson and Ilunga. Your great parishioners will continue to support you. May the Good Lord richly bless you both in health and spiritual wealth to continue leading his flock.

I have comforting memories of St Mary's - back in 1984 I lost my Mum, she was killed in a car accident and I was 18 years old, I thought my world had ended. At the time I was working just up the road on Wigan Lane and I used to go to St Mary's church nearly every day during my lunch break, just to sit there, light a candle and pray that God would help me with my grief. I'm now 43, very happily married with two gorgeous children but I'll never forget the way I felt as I sat there as a young girl 25 years ago. |

Saint Mary's is such a beautiful church, most close to my heart as it where my parents were married in 1981 by Fr. Cummings and also the place of my older brother and sister's baptism's. (1985 & 1987)
My cousins still attend Mass each week in the parish, many as altar servers i believe. Would it be possible to see larger picures or videos on the site??
Many thanks

Patrick was married in All Saints [Cof E] ???but showed up having all his family babtised here, perhaps , he got married here as well, maybe after the marriage at the CofE Church.Needs to be checked. |
